A STUDIO 400 PRODUCTION

WRITTEN BY MICHAEL HOLLINGER

DIRECTED BY BRANDON MAYO

Incorruptible is a dark comedy set in 13th-century France, where the Catholic Church holds immense power and influence. The play revolves around the struggling monastery of Saint Foy, whose monks are desperate to attract pilgrims and funding. Facing financial ruin and a lack of miracles to draw visitors, the monks hatch a scheme to create their own miracle by stealing a corpse and passing it off as a holy relic. However, their plans take unexpected and hilarious turns as they encounter deception, rivalry, and moral dilemmas. As the lines between good and evil blur, the monks must confront the consequences of their actions and decide what truly defines faith and righteousness.

About the director

When the wise and learned council of PLT's Studio 400 committee approached me about directing another show, I was ecstatic. My desk was littered with hundreds of wonderful scripts, ranging from heart-wrenching historical dramas to soaring adventure stories to flashy musical cavalcades with casts of dozens, all of which I was desperate to direct.

Unfortunately, we couldn't get the rights for any of those. Incorruptible, though, proved to be a wonderful comedy with a hopeful and powerful message about love, faith, and all the trouble we have to go through to find them. I hope that once you get past the skeletons, minor sacrilege, attempted murders, juggling, disease-ridden peasants, and mutilated corpses, you will find at last a thoughtful moment to contemplate that most unique of human traits: belief. Enjoy the show!
