The Lieutenant of Inishmore

the lieutenant of inishmore

Mad Padraic cares about one thing, and one alone, and -- despite his title as the lieutenant of Inishmore’s Irish National Liberation Army -- it’s not his fight for Irish independence. It’s his cat. When Padraic learns that his beloved cat, Wee Thomas, has been killed, Padraic rushes home. As he plows through the town in pursuit of revenge, bodies pile up in his wake. As fierce as he may be, however, Padriac’s soft spot for Wee Thomas may be the weak spot the next aspiring Lieutenant of Inishmore needs to target. This mainstage production is directed by Barbara Jacobs and is intended for mature audiences. The Lieutenant of Inishmore contains adult language and graphic violence.

Cast

Kyle Golden as Padraic

Kyle Golden graduated from The University of West Florida in 2013 with his Bachelor’s in theatre. He is relocating to Atlanta in the coming months to pursue acting full time and stop waiting tables. Past favorite productions include Every Brilliant Thing, The 39 Steps, BUG, and Reasons to Be Pretty.

FIAMA MASTRANGELO as Mairead

Fiama has been volunteering at PLT since 2014 as an actor, makeup artist, and occasional teacher’s assistant. The Lieutenant of Inishmore is her fourth production at PLT; other roles include Charlotte in Charlotte’s Web (2017) and Lucy in Dracula: A Real Pain in the Neck  (2019). From 2019-2020, Fiama served as the Assistant Director for Evil Dead: The Musical at Vinyl Music Hall, and played the bit-part role of Eddie. Most recently, Fiama played the role of Estelle in Arrant Knavery’s production of No Exit in 2020, which she also co-directed.

Jason Lewing as christy

Glad to be returning to the PLT stage. Jason was last seen in Studio 400’s production of Hand to God as Pastor Greg. Before that, he shared the sand arena as the Lord Marshal at Medievel Times Dinner and Tournament in Orlando, Florida. He is a long time actor onstage beginning at the Saenger Theatre with St. Mary’s and also performing at PSC, PLT, and the Loblolly Theatre in the old Sacred Heart Hospital on 12th Ave.

Joe Nierle as donny

Joe has been involved in professional, educational, and community theatre for over 50 years. He most recently directed Rumors for PLT.  He was last seen on stage at PLT as Vanya in Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike.

cliff pressley as brendan

Cliff is very happy to be back onstage, even though the masks we’ve been rehearsing in aren’t the funny kinds with big noses and rosey cheeks.  It just shows that theatre perseveres, and the show must go on.  He hopes you and yours have been well and everyone can continue to enjoy coming to see our productions for a long time to come.

michael daw as joey

Michael is a full grown adult man who has been performing at PLT since he was a little bitty boy. Recently-ish, he has performed in local productions of Evil Dead: The Musical, Woody Guthrie’s American Song, and Studio 400’s production of Hand to God. Daw is also a part of the Pensacola sketch group, Kitty Get a Job, as well as PLT’s own short form improv troupe, Improvable Cause. When not playing make believe, Daw can be found battling his own inner (and outer!) demons.

james Brigham as DAVEY

James graduated from the United States Naval Academy where he had roles in Hairspray, South Pacific, Art, and various one-act plays. His last time on stage was in PLT's 2013 production of Sleuth. He is thrilled to be returning to the theater, specifically the one where he last performed.

Troy mathis as james

Troy is beyond elated to make his return to the Pensacola Little Theatre stage. He was last seen at PLT as one of the brothers in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

from The Director

Director Barbara Jacobs

This play and its exaggerations make us laugh even with dead cats, tortured humans, and multiple executions because it examines the loss of reason and sense when extremism distorts reality.  Add to the mix that so many of the strongly held beliefs that lead to brutality and killing are not based in reality.  Take for example one character’s mistaken belief that the INLA carried out an assassination because the target had an odd name. Airey Neave.  He belongs to and is willing to kill for a cause he doesn’t fully understand.

The playwright, Martin McDonagh, (In Bruges, Three Billboards) expresses the clear viewpoint that the blood thirst of a cause gone extreme is pointless.  It’s a message that might be important for today’s troubles.
