the cat’s meow
The Cat's Meow offers a fascinating cross-section of Jazz Era characters who intersect for one notorious weekend on board William Randolph Hearst’s yacht in 1924. Weekend guests include Charlie Chaplin, who has been carrying on with movie star Marion Davies, a secret known to Davies’ paramour, the married – and much older -- Hearst; and movie mogul Thomas Ince, who is hoping to revive his flagging fortunes by forming a partnership with Hearst. Playing with fire, Ince tries to convince Hearst that he can handle both Marion’s movie career... and her private life as well.
NO VIDEO OR PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED DURING THE PERFORMANCE.
THE CAT’S MEOW is produced by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

FROM THE DIRECTOR
Join us as we take you back to scandal-laden 1920’s Hollywood. Times were different. Simple. Men ruled, or so women allowed them to believe. Alcohol was prohibited but was free-flowing. The innocent were not so innocent. Lives and careers could be created, or destroyed, with the swift movement of the pen upon paper. One who controls the media could manipulate history in their own favor. Is this so different from current times? Sit right back and let us tell you a tale, of six men and eight women who boarded the Oneida, a yacht owned by William Randolph Hearst, for a weekend of celebration – or so it would seem. “14 guests walked on board, one was carried off horizontally”. The actions of one will change the lives of many. As the band plays the Charleston, the guests mingle, and glances are cast upon two who stand just a little too close and linger just a moment too long. A mysterious death, surrounded by rumors and unfounded accusations. Was this really a case of mistaken identity? “Come with me, will you?” as the tale of Hollywood whispers unfolds on this most fantastic journey – it really is the Cat’s Meow!
