Pensacola Little Theatre is proud to present the final Studio 400 show of the season, The Nebula of Georgia, written and directed by Artistic Committee member Joe Nierle. This dramedy tells the story of a family in Georgia with a secret and is filled with southernisms and great characters.
Writer and Director of the show, Nierle, drew inspiration for the play from his love of the sound and cadence of southern speech and expressions. He set the play in Georgia and even visited a friend's relatives there to ensure authenticity to the southern experience. During his visit, he was struck by the honesty and clarity with which people spoke, with little editing of their thoughts. Nierle found that Southern expressions, like "bless her heart," can have several meanings depending on their placement in a sentence.
Nierle uses the idea of stars and a nebula as a symbol of darkness that can only shine brightly if it explodes, giving birth to new stars, which is exactly what happens to this Southern family. The play explores universal ideals of truth and honesty while delivering plenty of comedy, laugh-out-loud moments, and heartwarming Southern drama.
See The Nebula of Georgia May 19-27, 2023, in the M.C. Blanchard Courtroom. Tickets are available at pensaoclalittletheatre.com or by calling the Box Office at 850-432-2042. The production is funded in part by ACE and the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs.
